Any number of things could have caused that coin to to be "copper colored".
It wouldn't be in anyone's interest to just start guessing.
The coin would have to be examined, in-hand, by an experienced collector, before an informed opinion could be offered.

while roll searching i have found about 25 nickels with coper color swirled through them . i thought maby that the metals weren't combined just right in these.

Nothing fancy about a plain old six-sided #2 pencil.

Put one on a table, then balance another one on top. Now put your coin on one end of the top one and a known genuine nickel on the other end. If they balance, their weight is the same. If not, you'll know which one is heavier.

It might be a copper wash error...if that is the case I don't believe that there would be any added weight. I don't think it is an off metal error.

I agree with Speedy. If it were off metal, there would probably be some detail loss around the edges. My guess would be either PMD or sintered.
