I have a number of Kennedy half dollars, some 64, some 65 and newer. A couple of the clad newer ones, like the 66 I am now looking at, have taken on a copper/gold color on the reverse. Do they commonly do this, and what is the cause?

They could be toning because of how they were stored.

I recently pulled a half out of a roll that might look like what Ajarand is talking about- at first I thought it was gold plated-but I don't know how to tell. Is there any special way of telling if it is plated other than the color??? Probably stupid question

If it is plated some of the details will not be as sharp as they should be. And you can weigh it. But use an accurate scale as the weight of the plating is minimal. I'd try a jewelry store.

It is how the coin was stored that caused the toning.

Offers to buy or sell are not permitted in the "US Coins Forum." Besides, this thread has been dead for a few years.
