Alright, you guys are gonna cost me some serious $$$ for books, I can just see that ! So I joined the Early American Coppers club, right ? Best move I've made in a while. They sent me this cool information packet and I read everything. They've got a list of recommended books. I've heard of most of them - Cohen, Sheldon, Noyes, Breen. Major players, all. But while I'm cruising around Amazon, spending next month's paycheck, I spot one not listed by the EAC guys : "US Copper Cents 1816 - 1857" by Howard Newcomb. Any recommendations on that one ? Who has read it ? Thanks, Ricky B
Well-I have the book. Not exactly easy to use, but it certainly is usable. The only problem I have with the book is that it is not current. It does not have all the varieties for some dates, nor does it include the delisted varieties. That is my only beef with the book. I need to get another more current book and I am not sure which ones is most current.
Both Newcomb and Sheldon's book are considered bible's of the large cent crowd. I believe there is an updated edition of Newcomb
Thanks for the help, guys ! I just noticed the Newcomb books ARE in the EAC's list of recommended literature. Which raises some interesting questions : How did I miss that ? How can I ever learn to grade coins if I'm so unobservant ? Why do dogs have black lips ? (Just wanted to see if you're still paying attention )
