At the coin show today i stopped by the world coin table to see if they had found any free steate of Danzig coinage. They had not. But this little Columbian 1 centavo cought my eye for some reason. when i saw what appeared to be heavy polishing lines I decided to investigate further. Thats when i saw it 1964/1944!!!! Wow !!! It was an exciting discovery for me. I am not familiar with these. Please chime in. Is it rare? Is it valuable?
Ok I do see the over date but thinking that's a rpd not an over date, same date just misplaced. Danzig coins are cool...I have several not cheap if you can find them.
A "repunched" date implies that its the same date. Looking at the 6, I really don't see any straight lines..... I don't see how that 6 could be punched over a 6. An "overdate" is a date punched over a different date. To my eye, the undertype on that 6 looks an awful lot like that 4.
It's definitely a 4 under there. The PCGS price guide has it listed as 1964/1944. Love the 1/2 by the way.
I now see the 44 strange 20 years later to repurpose the die. The 1/2 paid $25 worth 3 times that amount
I saw your coin and said to myself "I got one of those". But it is a 1970 date with a bad "9" and some doubling on the "1".
