Going through some dollars and came across this one. I have some double edge errors, but this one was different than the rest of them.

    Thoughts...

Not a circulation find. I wish. Its just that its alot different than the other double edge errors I have. Wondering if this is the type writer style I have heard about...

typewriter type?? never heard of that.

it looks to me like this coin went through the esge lettering maching twice as gxseries mentioned, and with the second pass, it was in the same direction as the first.

Its not a typewriter type. Close however.

The typewriter type will come out looking like this

IIGGOODDWWTTRRUUSSTT The second roll goes through and almost lines up with the original passthrough. I have had several of them and they do command a nice premium.

It is called a Doubled "Overlapped" Edge Inscription error! Is the coin an Adams Dollar? These sold for pretty high prices on eBay when they first hit the scene but quickly dropped off. I think that with time, these Error coins will get back into $100 to $300 range in fairly high MS grades.

I hope your right Frank. Boy of Boy do I hope your right.. I personally think they have ran their course, the doubles are seen around here now in shows for around 40-50 bucks, the smooth edge are in the 350-400 range.

I suspect thats about where they will remain for some time.

    Jim,

For your all's sake, I hope I am right as well! This has somewhat been the trend with some of the newer errors. They quickly go up and up, then bomb out somewhat because so many show up on ebay and elsewhere. It just seems that there is a never ending supply of them, so the demand drops off as folks get jittery about paying too much then gettings stuck with the coins. Then as sales of these error coins diminishes on eBay and elsewhere, the prices slowly beging to creep back up. This happened somewhat to the Washington Smooth Edge Error Dollars and with the Wisconsin High and Low Leaf Error Quarters and look where the prices are now!

Washington Smooth Edge coins are easily found around here for under $100.00 slabbed. I think from my expierence in the Adams Double edge that there are far more Adams Double edge than there are Washington Smooths. I know of one person locally here that has over 5,000 of them sitting in a box. I also know of several people around here (SE MICHIGAN) who sold hundreds and thousands of them at a time. < -- fact.

I haven't followed the Wisconsin error But I suspect that when the state quarter series comes to and end it will level off and hold its own. I will look at the show this weekend and see where that is at price wise.
