Ok....I won last contest so I thought I would do one. You don't have the get them all right but the more right the better chance you win......if there is more than one winner I'll have my sister pick a name out of a hat. I don't know what the prize will be.....either a coin/proofset/mintset/etc.....maybe a ounce of silver.... Here are the questions. 1--Who was superintendent of the Carson City Mint in 1895 2--When talking about a Capped Die Strike....what error has to happen before this error can come to pass. 3--When was the gold 1854-S quarter eagle frist discovered? 4--What is on the Franklin Half dollar that the designer didn't want but by law had to put on it? 5--What is the normal IQ of a coin dealer? (This is what was told at the FUN show I think this year) 6--What Comm Half dollar have 3 ladys on the REV? 7--What Comm really has 2 "Head" sides? either side can be the head-niether side shows the whole body of eather person...just the head. 8--Name 3 coins with the same person on both sides 9--What coin only minted 1 year....sometimes has a STAR on the OVB and sometimes doesn't?...the star was taken off for the 2nd minting for really no reason. 10--What is the best way to know if a 1785 Barr Cent is real or fake? Have fun! Speedy
This is going to be an easy one to win.....so far only one member has sent in any guesses.....its not too hard--the info can be found in books and online. Speedy
Ok.......I found that some of the questions could have 2 coins that fit into the question but here is what I was looking for.... #1-Jewett W. Adams #2-Die Cap #3-1911 (I see that some where a few of y'all found 1910...the book I have stated the date at 1911...if there would have been more people to get this I would have had a hard time but even if I had counted the ones that got 1910 as right it wouldn't have been a tie.) #4-Eagle on back #5-70 (Only one of ya'll got this right!!!) #6-Monroe Doctrine (I have gotten the 1986 Half Dollar Comm....and since that is right it was counted) #7-Lewis and Clark Gold Dollar #8-There are many coins with the same person on both sides....Cent from 1959-date-Boone Comm-NJ State Quarter and more! #9-Die Crack on one of the bars on the back.....some have said that the S pass under the A but PCGS goes by the Die crack as they say that it is on ALL real Barr Cent.... Taking all of the questions and looking at the 7 people that sent in guesses....the winner is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jimmy-bones !!!!!! You can have a pick of 3 prizes.... a 1990 UNC Set---IMHO the D nickel is FS....and the P might be but I don't think so. a 1972 Proof Set-- a 1 ounce silver round...it has a space ship on it and says The Spirt of Columbia....Febuary 1, 2003 and other things on the back..... This has been fun to me and I hope others liked it too!....maybe we will do it again. Speedy
I thought it was fun, until I realized that I forgot to send my answers:goofer: Oh well, I learned some stuff.
Wow! I won! Thanks for the contest. It was fun and educational. These are my favorite type contests. I'll send you a PM shortly. - JB
Glad it was fun guys.....I'm working on a new web site for the Coin Collecting world...it will have pages of facts and info just like this. Speedy
Hi Speedy, I think the answer to question number 5 must be wrong! The average IQ range for the general population is between 90-110. In fact, an IQ of 70 is considered borderline mentally retarded. Thanks for the contest. While I didn't participate, I learned some new things!
Well here is what I heard.....they said that the reason we have a 70 point grading sys is because the IQ of most dealers is around 70. Now I've never taken a real IQ test...so I don't know what a rate.....I did take a free one online about a few years ago and can't remember my number....wish I could find it again so I could know if I'm could be a coin Dealer Speedy
There is no doubt in my mind that you are as smart, if not smarter than the average coin dealer. I also think that if you want a career in coins, you could easily make one!
I didn't even try. To old to look things up. However, I printed out these questions and answers. I am slowly collecting information like this and will eventually make it into a book. No one here will get any credit for this and I will get rich enough to buy all the coins I want.
I think the comment was ment to be a joke. Descriptive Classifications of Intelligence Quotients IQ Description % of Population 130+ Very superior 2.2% 120-129 Superior 6.7% 110-119 High average 16.1% 90-109 Average 50% 80-89 Low average 16.1% 70-79 Borderline 6.7% Below 70 Extremely low 2.2% Speedy, check with your guidance office at school. Im sure they have your IQ on file figured from some of those PSAT/NMSQT tests you have taken in the past.
May be.....but the guy that told me sent to the meeting that was there where people talked....and IIRC it was Bowers that said this.....if this was wrong I'm sorry everyone. Speedy
Thanks Speedy. I got the package this weekend! I think you are right; the nickel looks FS to me too! Stay tuned for a contest coming to CT soon!
Glad it got there....took a good while...I mailed another guy a coin that same day and it only took 3 days and he lived in CA. Never know about the mail! Speedy
