I was a bit unsure which forum to post this thread. You see, I won @lordmarcovan contest #94 in the name of my grandson. Since this thread is more about the coin than the contest I figured this forum suited it best.

I wanted to post my grandsons excitement upon receiving the coin in the contest thread, but alas its been closed for further posts.

My little guy was so excited when I presented this Morgan to him. His eyes bulged, and he said, 'Pop Pop, is this a dollar coin?'. I told him yes it is. It's an 1882 Morgan silver dollar. And it's 141 years old. He was exuberant.

Here he is when he first opened the envelope.....

Thanks again, Rob. You rock buddy.

And for the record, I was inspired to post this thread by @Randy Abercrombie and his 'bragging', not bragging, thread about his grandson. Thanks for that nudge Randy

    @masterswimmer.
What an enjoyment that must have been! :) He looks so happy. Cute kid. Seeing this thread reminds me of when I was young and first starting out. Now you just need to get him a holder to put it into and tell him about storing it and many others to come Grandpa! ;)

You got that right Sal. Already done though. He just doesn't know it yet. I scored a Dansco 7070 that he's going to be putting together with Pop Pop. I hope he's as excited about that as I am.

Oh, and yes it was as much of an enjoyment for me as it was for him. :)

Does he have a Metal Detector? He looks like he would enjoy that hobby as well. ;)

lmao, Sal. I bought him his own metal detector 2 Christmas' ago. He loved mine, so I figured he needed one of his own. You and I seem to be on the same wavelength. :)

This is the one I got him.....

@masterswimmer . I bet he would enjoy this as well:
    ACE200. Excellent beginner detector.

No doubt. He was only 5 y/o when I got him that one. The ease of use, no buttons or settings to put in, made it extremely kid friendly. And believe it or not, it works. We've found some junk metal with it. No coins or jewelry yet, but we're still trying.

The detector you posted seems like it would be a nice step up from the one he's got. When his younger brother turns 'of age' to be able to handle it, we'll cycle this one through him and step the big guy up to the next level. By then I wouldn't doubt there'll be new entrants into the kids beginner detectors that might be better. We'll see.

Well, you could always "seed" the coins in the ground for him to at least practice with. Colored coins win prizes!! That would be fun and Awesome!

I did do that. I didn't tell him I was seeding the field. After he found two coins he looks at me and says, 'Pop Pop, are you dropping coins for me to find?' and followed with, 'that's cheating'. lmao.

He's advancing through his Tae Kwon Do belts. There are tenets that TKD students are supposed to base their behaviors on. Cheating certainly doesn't fit into their teachings. And I couldn't lie to him. That would be against those teachings as well. Therefore, dropping coins came to a sudden halt. However, he did find a couple and it was obvious the detector did do what it was supposed to do. Detect metal. So he's definitely on board with detecting with Pop Pop. I've got my MineLab Equinox 900 he's clamoring to get his hands on.

I love seeing a kids face light up like that when he looks at an old coin. I'll never get tired of seeing wonderment like that in a kids face... Well done, grandpa!
