Since I can't contribute much in the way of knowledge... here's a contest!

*This contest is open to all CoinTalk members.
*Contest closes Thursday, 3/9 at noon PST.

Please DON'T post your answer in this thread. Send me a private message.

I have an envelope from my dad, labeled "Various U.S. coins--Value X (1980)."

The envelope contains the following 9 coins:

    1832 half cent--VF
    1857 flying eagle cent-- VF
    1893 Indian head cent-- VF
    1905 Indian head cent --VF
    1906 Indian head cent-- XF
    1933-D Wheatie cent-- F
1864 2 cent (large motto)-- VF
    1868 2 cent-- XF
    1891 Liberty seated dime-- F

The value written on the back of the envelope was the total amount he paid for the coins, which he purchased between 1978 and 1980.

What was that total? Closest guess wins the 1832 half cent, plus an Oscar: a Norwegian silver 50 ore from 1889, featuring Oscar II.

Again, please don't post your answer; send me a pm. And good luck to all. :smile

Woops! I mean, I dont know if the 1857 flying eagle cent-- VF

Far as I know, the 1857 came in only one flavor, CoinKid. Maybe you're thinking of the 1858, which has large or small letters on the obverse? Let me know which of your guesses
    stands.

    Yes, it arrived just fine.:)
If you're worried about this in the future, there's a "miscellaneous options" box below the box you're using to compose your pm. The first option is to request a read receipt. Just select this option before submitting the message.
