Found my first contemporary counterfeit today for 50 cents. It's a lead cast 1907 Barber half dollar. Pretty cool piece. Couple questions though, is it legal? Are they rare or collectible? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated thanks!

It's not legal if you try to sell it as a real coin.
I think it is OK to own, for your own collection, label it counterfeit (on the flip or whatever.) I think it's even OK to sell as a counterfeit as long as both parties realize it is counterfeit.
    Someone will know more.
This is pretty cool and worth way more than 50 cents IMO.

Thank you! I forgot to add it weighs 12.179 grams so they were actually pretty darn close to replicating the weight of 12.5 grams.

It is legal to own and sell as a known counterfeit on both sides. In fact most contemporary counterfeits sell for a lot more than the coins before (in general).

Very nice counterfeit and great price. Congrats!
