Had to pick this up at the post office today. Yet another FH from Arles (an early issue using ARL vs the later CON for Constantia) Constantius II . DN CONSTAN-TIVS PF AVG, rosette and pearl-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right. A behind bust / FEL TEMP R-EPARATIO, soldier spearing fallinghorseman w/ Phrygian helmet, sitting on ground, arm(s) up; soldier's knee on horse's rump. A in left field. Mintmark: PARL. RIC VIII Arles 121. It was a hard type to find, though I managed to buy 3. My other and a festive one I traded
If we can combine, perhaps these two can contribute, too. What is the significance of the F on the last one?
you traded the elf getting bowled over by the christmas tree ornament coin!? how could you!? i was at a small coin show today and picked this little thing up for 2.50, i didn't think i had a julian ii fallen horseman...when i got home i saw that i already did. oh well, different mint and this one actually looks nicer. Julian II 355-360 AD O: DN IVLIANV-S NOB CAES, R: Fallen horseman, AN (gamma) in ex, Antioch mint. (Antioch 189), 16 mm, 2.9 g
I can't remember if it has come up or not. I'm not sure at the moment what F stands for. What about the L in this one? Its not PARL (or sarl, tarl) its PAR dot L. Suppose I'll post my others.
