Constantine the Great; Victory Stance: 260-330 AD ?

At least that's what I was told when I bought 'em: $15 the pair. How did I do?

Not that I'm gonna become an Ancient or Roman collector...Perish the Thought!

These (and the ones to follow) just seemed like a reasonable gamble.

I trust you'll notify me of my folly PDQ.

On the left is Constantius II (son of Constantine I). On the right is Constantius Gallus as Caesar under Constantius II. The falling horseman type is very common in low grade. It is less common really nice. I just got another yesterday which I was going to post separately here but I'll show it as what $24 brings in the type. The question of how much to pay for poor examples of common coins is one we must each decide. I prefer coins clear enough to ID to one of the 2200 varieties estimated to exist for the horseman series.

I have posted a few more on my horseman page:

Not sure what you mean by "victory stance". Doug covered the FH type so I won't belabor the information. Your coins are rather common, though, but for $15 for two, you didn't do bad. Take a look at Doug's example for $24. Now that's worth every penny because of the detail. I'm always on the lookout for detailed FH types that are affordably priced.

Growin' up in Victoria BC, I loved lookin' across at Port Angeles ... nice coin-pick-ups, wlwhittier!! (ummm, but I must agree that for very little cash you can find quite a few slicker examples ... but if you're merely wanting to buy a couple of cool Roman coins, then you nailed-it!!)

Simply repeating what was scribbled on both the 2X2's these came to me in.

I'm without clue as to correct language here...as elsewhere!

There is no correct language. I was just wondering what was meant. These are typically called
types. Here is one of many in my collection. It is Constantius Gallus:
