Constantine II AE3. 320-321 AD. Aquileia mint, 2.5g, 17mm OBV: CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB. Laureate, draped & cuirassed bust right, seen from behind. REV: CAESARVM NOSTRORVM, VOT V in wreath, dot in badge at top of wreath. AQT dot in ex. REF: RIC VII Aquileia 95v I slowly narrowed down the details to attribute this coin because the reverse mint mark is in rather bad condition but I do like the patina on this coin. I also believe it to be a variant or unlisted, perhaps. On the obverse it says CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB and not CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C as expected. Wikipedia copy and paste history.
How in the world were you able to narrow that down to the Aquileia mint? I'm not arguing with the attribution. Just amazed that you could read the mintmark.
I narrowed down the details that I can easily see first and then looked at what was left. In hand it also looks like AQT in ex. Almost looks like AQ gamma though, which is what I originally thought it might be.
From the image I am unable to see that. Good call and nice coin. I haven't gotten any Constantine era coins in a while. I think you are making me want to look again.
Thanks man. I recently ordered 10 Constantinian/late Roman coins from Rudi and I received them a couple of days ago. I needed a few to fill some reverse type slots. And yeah, I really like most of them.
Maybe you'll get one soon. I suppose interest in eras comes and goes. One minute you want 3rd century military crisis coins, the next Roman Republic coins. lol I know I've went back and forth between eras.
Well, lately I've really been concentrating on the Roman Republic. I have three new ones on the way and will post them once they arrive.
