I’m not a big collector of tokens and medals but occasionally I’m drawn to items from Yale, New Haven & Connecticut. Here are a few cool pieces I recently got on the cheap. If you have tokens from Connecticut, please post them. This first piece is a dining car token from the New Haven Railroad. Although not depicted in the photo, the reverse is actually aligned 90 degrees to the obverse. This piece should be popular with anyone having a topical train token collection.
This medal commemorates ANA life member Frank J. Katen from New Haven Connecticut. The medal was apparently issued at the 1948 ANA convention in Boston Massachusetts.
numismatic business card On the subject of numismatist medals, this store card is from the rare coin company Forbes & Watcke. They were based in Woodmount Connecticut. (ca. 1976) This particular piece has a 1776/1976 bicentennial theme obverse.
While grabbing the photos I found these two photos. :smile The Paradise tavern token my be worth $1 and the Granby/Higley token might be worth 1000x that.
Connecticut 350 year anniversary medal This Medal is about the size of a US silver dollar. It is quite heavy & apparently made of pure copper. The Charter Oak is depicted on the obverse. This piece was minted in 1985 to commemorate the 350 year anniversary of the state of Connecticut.
Please post 'em if you got 'em. That is all for my new Connecticut pieces. Please post 'em if you got 'em.
Haven't got any Connecticut tokens but I love all things trains. Thought I'd share an New York, New Haven and Hartford 'Hudson' which looks, oddly enough, like the one in the OP. [Photo courtesy UCONN digital library]
After reviewing a lot of past threads it’s apparent that there are not so many coins depicting trains. Here are a few threads at CT: http://www.cointalk.com/t93672/ http://www.cointalk.com/t91095/ http://www.cointalk.com/t61675/
This is a nice silver medal commemorating the 350th Anniversary of the City of New Haven, Connecticut issued in 1988 (only 100 were struck) I bought it 25 years ago, and I'm just curious what it's worth? Thanks, Cesar
