Does anyone own one of these? Can the coin be removed from holder without damaging the packaging? If yes, how do I know I'm getting the real deal?
Yes you can remove the coin from the packaging without damaging it as it's in a plastic airtite. "real deal" ... well, I guess you don't. You can buy (from time to time) the CS cardboard. And if you have a proper ASE for it .. you can fill it in. caused a slight broo-haha when I saw a 2017 cardboard from a slabbed CS on eBay. Empty cardboard ... I was thinking I had the ASEs too but someone else bought it. I wonder if they filled it and sold it when they were going for over $2k ?!?! The only thing is I think the airtite is slightly different on the outside as it has a lip on it so it sets into the cardboard but not too far. I usually remove my coins from their packaging and put a slip of paper over them to identify from what packaging they came from in order to save space in the SDB.
Want the real deal? You can get the S mint Eagle direct from the mint on August 14th. No limit. https://catalog.usmint.gov/american...oof-coin-18EM.html?cgid=2018-product-schedule Edit: Nevermind. Could have sworn that the Congratulations set had an S Eagle in it. Alas, that was last year's set.
Kripes, here's another fine mess you've gotten me into. Now I'm gonna have to 'spring' for that example. Any news on why they're (mint) doing it? They've a long history of selling bullion to distributors and a long history of fleecing collectors with 'collectible' bullion. Trouble is, I'm a sucker for these things..........
Something about 50 years of proof coin production at the San Francisco mint. The reverse poof silver set is also supposed to be part of the "special" offerings from the San Fran mint.
