OK, today at my bank job I came across a $100 star note that was very crisp and nice so I set it aside so I can look up its info and decided if I really want a $100 bill in my collection (of which I have none). Anyway, its a series 2003 Dallas star note serial DK00336814*. However, none of my sources show that serial in the proper range for that series. Any ideas??? Oh, and no pics because the bill is still at work in my teller box.
I've been wondering if I wrote the serial down wrong...but the number of digits is right. But, maybe I transcribed a number or something...maybe its 0303... rather than 0033, I'll have to wait until monday to check. But, I know its Dallas as I remember it was K11 below the serial.
i got this of the uspapermoney.info site... DK 000 00001 * DK 012 80000 * Feb 04 and DK 032 00001 * DK 033 28000 * Mar 04 from what i see, DK00336814* easily falls under the first run in feb04.
Thats odd, because the Schwartz/Lindquist book lists that run up to DK00128000*. The reason I ask is because if this note comes from a run of 128,000...I feel that it could one day become a good note to have, and I may drop $100 for my collection. But, if it comes from a run of 1,280,000...then it's not worth it to me.
I dont know what to say RichieB16 lol 2 sources, 2 bits of info .. im not sure which to believe.. maybe find a 3rd source. Ill have to check my friedberg's ... see what they say.
I would appreciate that because I would really like to know if I should buy this note. The uspapermoney.com website makes more sense because I'm pretty sure that's the serial number of the note. If so, does that mean the first run of star notes was 1.28 million and therefore not that rare?
well, page 211 of my 18th edition friedberg book, says the dallas 2003 * note had 1,560,000 printed. and is worth 135 in EF and 250 in ch/unc. i am too lazy to get my calculator out, but it looks like it matches what uspapermoney.info has listed between the two print runs.
The BEP's own February 2004 production report shows the 1,280,000 number, which is where I got it. There've been plenty of typos in the official BEP reports over the years, but if you've got an actual note with serial 00336814, then it looks like Schwartz book is the one with the typo. The total printage for the DK..* $100 is 2,688,000, including the two print runs already mentioned plus a third run DK06400001* to DK07680000* in June 2005. I'm not sure where the number quoted from Friedberg came from, unless that edition was published before the third run was printed...?
im not really sure Numbers. the book i have listes the $100 notes up to 2003A ... with a note that the book was published with the 2003A still 'in production'. Even still, it is possible the book didnt have all the info on the 2003 prior to printing. not sure how the extra notes might affect the value of the note the OP found. possibly lowering it further?!
