bryantallard show me the money....so i can look through it

ok...i am unable to take a pic, but any hypothetical suggestions would be appreciated. at work today in my drawer i found a penny. it is a dark gray, the thickness of a penny, but the exact size of a nickle in comparison. however, according to the red book it says that a 1 cent on a nickle planchet is not possible. any ideas?

It could be flattened, because a nickel planchet could not possibly have fit in the die presses.

would that make it a broadstrike? what would be the reason for it looking gray?

The core is zinc. If the copper plating is missing it would expose the zinc core. Zinc is highly reactive and will quickly oxidize.
