I bought this 1929 Type 1 $10 bank note. It says FIRST National Bank of St Louis. Yet according to the Standard Catalog of US Paper Money 24th Ed, the First National bank of St Louis' charter number is 89. The THIRD National Bank of St. Louis is 170. I'm fairly new at currency collecting so there maybe something VERY obvious and clear that I'm missing. Hope I'm not an idiot.

The original First National Bank of Saint Louis, Charter #89, was formed in 1863 and liqidated in 1870. It didn't issue small size notes.

The Third National Bank, Charter #170, was also formed in 1863. In 1919, it was renamed the First National Bank, while retaining its original charter number. It issued 271,014 small size $10 notes, of which your example is one.

'Pick' is another way of saying 'The Standard Catalogue of World Paper Money',which was originally compiled by Albert Pick.Although Albert Pick has now retired, his numbering system has been retained.
