I had taken different photos of the same 1910 $5 Indian Head coin and was wondering what kind of condition you think this is, based on a non-certified grading assessment. Any idea? https://www.cointalk.com/media/albums/tonycoinpics.273/
Pictures are not the best but it appears obvious to me that the coin has AU details and has been harshly cleaned.
No it hasn't been cleaned. Anyway, thinking of putting it up on Ebay, I've seen worse photos on Ebay, even ungraded coins.
The inverse relief Indian coins are IMHO one of the most difficult series to grade properly. The protected areas are not going to tell you much about the grade. You must look at the fields and determine what is wear, luster, bag marks etc. All that being said I would guess that the Indian coin depicted is not mint state. I see that you have also depicted a Lafayette dollar in your album. Have you compared that sample to a known real coin like this one: (I just picked this photo from a previous thread at CT. It is not my coin in this case)
