Concern about an NGC slab with the label bowing up

    Hi all,

A quick question - trying to avoid fakes and understand legitimate labels for NGC coins.

I'm on my way through my NGC MS64 Peace Dollar set and most of them I've purchased from PNG dealers. I'm looking at another to add to the collection and the coin is gorgeous - but as you everyone says - don't buy the slab.

I believe the coin is genuine, it appears to make the grade at first and second glance, but there is no picture available of the coin on NGC's site.

The label inside the slab is "bowing" for lack of a better term. The paper is bowed in the middle - bending up. Is this legit? I would like to know what your thoughts are if you've seen these before - and more so if you own any..

Could this just be an older label that is peeling up (not the NGC sticker on the back - the description label on front)?

I have seen this on many completely fine NGC holders. On occasion the paper label does not "seat" in the holder properly and it can become wavy or bow a bit with time. Of course, a picture would help...without a pic, we're all just guessing here.

    Best, Brandon

Oh yeah some of my older NGC slabs have done the same.

Moreover, NGC did not always image every coin.

    Ok, than you Yankee42!

I just needed someone else to say it's legit. The guy seems legit - but one never knows. The coin looks legit, but I'm not a pro.

Many thanks, now to negotiate a fair price.

It's the degenerative gasses bloating the slab. Perfectly normal........

This is JUST letting my mind wander.
We know slabs are NOT 100% sealed.
If the slab were stored in a humid environment, particularly if the temperature seesawed up and down, moisture could have gotten inside.
    That could warp a label.
