After almost 3 yrs I’ve completed the four piece Hawaii set (1,5,10,20$) with the purchase of the $5 note. All four are in VF condition and look great together in the four-pocket sleeve. I've also finished collecting the three piece North Africa set recently in the same grade.:hail:
Those are very hard notes to find. The only notes that we find in these issues over here in New Zealand is the $1 with the brown seal overprinted 'HAWAII' in black.I've never seen the ones that were used in North Africa,or the others in the Hawaiian issue. You will have to post some photos some time. Aidan.
Thanks guy's, you gotta love the feeling that comes with finishing a set. By the way have you seen the prices these notes sell for in crisp unc? Way over my budget, big bucks. Here are the pics.
RickieB,I think all the Hawaiian overprint banknotes $5 upwards used the San Francisco plates. The $1 used a Silver Certificate plate. Aidan.
Hello Adian... I just looked that up..you are correct Sir! There was only a small mention of the brown seal as well. Thanks for the info...there are mighty expensive note in Unc for this Series 1934 and 1934-A Regards, RickieB
how much would a $1 bill with hawaii printed on the front and back be worth? i'm talking about a circulated one from the 30's. my grandmal has one and is probaly going to give it to me pretty soon she says.
RickieB,I think that it made sense that the San Francisco issue plates were used to print the Hawaiian issue,as California is the closest state located to Hawaii.I'm not certain why the Silver Certificate plates were used to print the $1,instead of the $1 Federal Reserve Note plates though. As for the North African yellow seal issue,I wouldn't know which issue's plates were used to print those notes,as I have never seen any of those before. Aidan.
Ben,the Hawaiian coins are very difficult to find. The only coin that does turn up from time to time is the Hapaha (Hawaiian $1/4). Aidan.
Very well matched set, Silver surfer. Congratulations! Now you need to post the images of North Africa set. Regards Ballabh Garg
Silver Surfer,Ballabh's right. You will have to post some photos of that North African issue.I've never seen these notes before,& they are not pictured in Pick. Aidan.
Just finished scanning these for you guy's,I spent about 3yrs and roughly $200 putting this set together. What i like about this set is that all 3 notes are silver certs, unlike the Hawaii set where the $1 is the only silver cert , the others are FRN.
