Complete Split planchet 1841 Dime

    Here’s a pretty great piece I just acquired as part of an estate collection. I love that both halves stayed together.

    Usually made out of a base metal and silver plated to mimic a real seated.

    So you’re suggesting the coin is counterfeit? Is this a common occurrence?

    Not kidding. Why would they have counterfeit a dime? Seems like a waste of time. What am I missing?

    It's more than likely an old counterfeit. Hard to say why they did it. Less conspicuous than say a Morgan counterfeit perhaps?

    Back in that time, a dime had a lot more purchasing power.
