I have 4 full rolls of silver dimes and one partial roll (35 coins the roll is broken). Some are Mercury dimes, a lot are low grade Barber dimes. Would I expect to get silver value for the Barber dimes? Some of the dimes are roosies I found in the coin star reject bin.
I think at this point every dealer is looking to pay as little as possible, for fear of being left high and dry after the wave crests/bubble pops. It seems like the big online dealers want to charge extra for Barbers, but not pay extra for them. At local shows during previous run-ups, I've had dealers back away from their stated silver multiple-of-face buy price when I hauled out some dateless SLQs or slick Barber dimes, because at that stage they actually have lost weight. From the stacks that I've checked, slick SLQs can lose up to 10% of their weight, but easily 20% of their thickness (high points wear down first). My slickest Barber dimes come in under 2.0g, meaning they've lost more than 20% of their weight.
