Common Date or Un-Common?

    What do you all think....if you are not going to put together the whole type set....would you buy common dates? What if the common dates were High MS grade? or would it be better just have a low grade rarer date?
    Here is a coin I just bought that is a common date 1887-S $5 liberty Head.

    ALot of people would say the best "investment" would be key dates in high grades. Of course, most of us can't afford that. I personally would go with the best condition I could reasonably afford, even if that means going with the most common dates.
