What does your LCS markup their commemeratives? I was in one of the shops that I frequent and they want $89.95 for the Defenders of Freedom set ($51.95 on mint site) and $74.95 for the Proof ASE ($59.95 on mint site). Are these standard markups? I have been collecting modern commems but have been hesitant to buy when they first come out because so many of them drop after being out awhile. I have picked up quite a few for just a couple dollars more than melt.
Depends on what you be friend. Are ye a collector, or an investor? I buy my modern commems from the mint and say balderdash to the after-market, but that's just me, the collector. Of course, if you're shrewd and patient, you can pick many of them up (after the fact) at a much lower price than what's commanded at the mint initially. I will say (though) that I've picked up many bargains in the after market. Modern commems are an affordable series to collect......
