I have a 1 real coin dated 1775 with the Mexico city mint mark and a 1 real dated 1778 from Bolivia. They have a shield between two columns on the reverse. Please, could someone tell me why the Columnario date range is from 1732 to 1772 only (from what I've read)? Is it because of a design change on the reverse or obverse?
Thanks Now the search to find Columnario here in Santiago Chile or Buenos Aires where I am vacationing at the moment.
Beware of where you buy coins while there - fakes abound. Try to buy only from reputable dealers, but be prepared to pay a hefty price. The columnarios are typically a good bit more expensive down there than they are in the US.
Thanks for the warning I've been to two dealers and one of them showed me a fake 2 peso Chilean from the 1930s. It was lighter than the authentic silver one and had a darker colour. Haven't been able to find anything in the Columnario date range. Only coins from Spain and Europe in their range and earlier.
