Got this a Last year.. I thought it was cool .. It goes well with the Halves I have.. But Since my Halve are 1893 and 1892 and the Medal is 1893.. Does anyone know if they made a 1894 Medal? It was for the US Gov. Treasury Building at the 1893/94 Expo.
1893 is the correct year and there is so much 1892,1893 is the correct years and there is so much stuff made for that fair it would take a livetime to get it all. I to, like it and buy it when availible - items in mint state are much rairer.

Well this Medal is For the US mint expo Building and is Dated 1883.. I was wondering if they have one dated 1882.. I know I have the half Dollars for both years (Somewhere in the Hoard) And I thought I should have the set of the Medals if they had them,, As for the EXPO Items.. Oh yes.. so much stuff.. A bit off topic but sold a bunch of Victorian Trade Cards and the ones that had ANYTHING to do with the EXPO Sold Fast and high
still not correct, it was for the Columbian Expo of 1892-1893. There were two varieties, large & small letter reverse. You have the small letter reverse. Neither is scarce. As for 1882 you have to search Hibbler & Kappens So-called $ book for that size medals. If you want nay size, then it is easy: yes, they issued them, but-- difficult to locate because they are not that popular. Okay, I give up: No, no So-Called $ listed for 1882. 1881- yes; 1883 - yes. But, really folks, you have to do SOME research on your own, buy a book, something.

Red books and Blue for the last 3 years and both cherry pickers.. A couple other small collector books .. And the Web (BEST) For currency I have old books ..Standard Catalog of Modern US currency 1982 and US Paper Money 13th Ed. Where or how do I get a copy of the Grey sheet .. Now I use the red Book..and the Blue just sit on a shelf.. I am not sure what the difference is But get them every year.. As for medals.. Not really a collector so have no books.. But I guess I need one.. Since I do have 4 or 5 Medals.. Wow, Maybe I do collect Medals... Its that Hoarding bug.. I need to take stock.
The Red book is retail pricing, the Blue book Wholesale. Cherrypickers is good, For medals, at least those of that size, there is the reprint of Hibbler & Kappens So Called dollars book. Excellent resource and great reading.
I have found that CoinFacts and VAMworld and sites like this to be the best... Thanks for all info you provide.. Funny as I went back through my post .. I was stuck on the 1880's The whole time.. so I can't use early AM as excuse.. I will blame my wife.. I think she is poisoning me.. a bit each night.. Its the only way to get these coins "Out of her House!!"....
Other countries even made stuff for this fair. It was a giant event. If I'm thinking right the fair was actually a year late in starting. The US Mint even had a booth there.
That is where the Medal is from .. The US mint Building At the Expo.. It shows the dimensions of the Building on the Obverse near the bottom..
yes, and yes. The fair managed to open for Columbus Day, 1892, opened for (I think) a day or three. Re-opened the following year. The US Mint was on site, and struck medals there, as did many others.
So If the Mint had the Building up for this 1 Day (?) And Struck Medals that have the 1892 Date... Rare... I am Looking now! Look above at the Obverse of the Coin.. it IS a Shot OF the US MINT Building at The EXPO It says the size of the structure.. 3 Acres 421x321.. Why those sizes??? Any Masonic connection... And from here the string gets odd... watch
NO!~ The fair was only open for a little bit in 1892, but the medals are common. They were also struck in 1893.
