Rumor has it that at some point in time there was a US colorized quarter with a Sydney Opera house Privy or some such thing on it. Are any of you quarter collectors familiar with it??
rggoodie, That's not possible but there might have been a Canadian coin like that,they're big on privy marks.
It wasn't done by the US mint and I never heard of one....my dealer gets in colorized quarters for some of his buyers but I never buy any so I might have missed it. Speedy
I think you probably have it backwards. It was probably an Australian coin. There have been six different Austraian coins that have included the 1999 state quarter designs as an "insert". They were not colorized from the mint, although they could have been colorized by a private firm lated. Or there could have been some company that put a colorized image of the Sidney Opera House on a state quater. Coin collectors do not track these colorized coins because they can be made up by anyone who wants to in thousands of different images. There is probably some company out there who will put any picture you want on a quarter. To coin collectors they have a value of 25 cents unless they won't work in the vending machine.
Looking for junk US coin No mix up I have all the Aussie coins with the opera house privy but I was told about the US one I do not collect colorized coins, but if I can find a couple of copies of the American possibly quarter that is colorized with the Opera house on it, I will be giving them as gifts. :desk:
