I am still trying to discern the subtle differences in the RB and Red color of Indian Head pennies. To the best of your ability what color would this coin be designated as? Tia.
Unfortunately, I don't think that the piece is genuine. If you look at the little "teeth" around the rim of the design, called denticles, they appear to be uneven. That is a sure fire sign of trouble. Also the high aspects of the design on the reverse are weak or missing. the lines in the top of shield do not appear to be there, and the oak wreath is missing detail. The same weakness can be noted in the feathers in the Indian's headdress on the obverse. If the piece were to be real, the reverse is obviously unnatural. It would not get a grading color for cleaning. I don't have a 1907 Indian Cent, but I do have an 1864 Bronze Cent. Note the design details and the denticles. This piece is graded MS-65, Red and Brown.
I cannot answer your question, either. This one also looks different from the Red or Red-Brown colors on Lincoln cents. If the one above is RB, then I imagine this one would be, too. This reverse also has a section of weak denticles, so that’s not uncommon. However, the rest of the reverse is strong, so the weak denticles can be attributed to a small die misalignment that applied less pressure to that part of the planchet - 9 to 11 o’clock on the obverse, and the same area, 7 to 9 o’clock on the reverse.
In hand at a certain angle it looks like a woody? Is that possible? Maybe my picture taking is suspect, sorry!
I find that when I take pics with my cellphone if I crop them tight, I lose details, I am definitely no expert in taking pictures! The second set was in natural light with flash.....
