It has suddenly occurred to me that there must be surviving coins from the era of African colonialism. Is there such a thing as a British East Africa coin or a German West Africa coin? If there are such coins and others (and I wouldn't know the denominations), I would love to learn about them. Thanks to anybody.

Gunsmoke,Nigeria - British West Africa had coins between 1906 & 1911,British West Africa had coins from 1912 to 1958,East Africa & Uganda Protectorates had coins between 1906 & 1919,East Africa had coins from 1920 to 1964.

German East Africa had coins between 1890 & 1916.The other German colonies in Africa used regular German coins.

If you have a copy of the Krause catalogues, you can look them up yourself. If not,you can look at the one in the public library or buy one from www.amazon.com .

Have you seen the recent (alternative) Budweiser video with the chimp as the leading actor? :)

There used to be a way to reply to a whole thread (I think), but I don't see that now. I don't know where this reply will appear, but I want to thank everybody who responded to my thread on colonial coins. Those responses were wonderful, and so were the coins that were shown. Those coins are full of history.
I appreciate everybody who responded and I was fascinated by the coin pics. Thanks! gunsmoke
