In 2011 I found this 1786 New Jersey Colonial Copper while metal detecting in Coventry C.T. My health was good then and it was the most exciting coin/treasure I have ever found. It is very worn but using a strong magnifying glass you can make the horse head and plow and the shield on the reverse. That is one of many reasons why I like coin collecting as a hobby. Who's hands did this coin belong to and how did it get here. It read about 8 inches in the ground.

Those are my favorite questions when seeing old coins. Who held this? What was it used to pay for? Etc.

I still look at almost every day because I found it across the street from my house. The earth is full of treasures and love the same reasons when I see and hold an old coin. It is just cool.

They made a lot of the nj coppers. In the 18th c there was such a shortage of hard currency that nearly anything with intrinsic metal value circulated. Not far from nj to ct either especially by boat Barter themost common form of commerce those days
