I do not have any pics right now, I will post some later. But I'm super excited as I got a high VG to low F 1893 Colombian commemorative 1/2 dollar from the junk silver bin for $13 :D

Fantastic! And you got it for a small premium over 'melt'. You must post a photo........:)

Nice, sometimes when you get coins out of the junk bin they're slightly toned. Wanna see some pics.

Big fan of the columbian halves. Though I only pay melt for my examples. I have a VG max and an VF and an XF/AU all picked up for $12.50 each. Would love to see your example in a pic though.

I got one of these halves the other day from a local antique shop for only $12. It was in pretty good condition, better than the one I had. Best find I've had in awhile.

There's just something about a well worn commem. Can't quite put it into words but I'll make an attempt. A coin that was issued commemorating some 'cause or society' fell on hard times and wound up in circulation because the Goobers were reluctant to melt the remaining 'thousands' and just turned them loose into circulation. I wonder, sometimes, if the contemporary folks ever questioned some of these. "Hey, what the devil is that? I know of no coin as such issued. You tryin' to pass a Chinese fake?" :) (they never said that in those days) I imagine folks back then didn't question the new addition to regular circulation and accepted the novel issues as legal tender. Judging from the wear on your coin, Ethan, I'd say it was rather well received......:)
