    Hi all,

I have been collecting USA coins for 5 years now. I know that my US collection will not be comparable to any of yours, but I think this is normal as I live in Egypt and most of you live in USA.

But I thought I need to know How am I doing? and if any of you have a comment that would help my collection become more valuable like expanding a set to include silver or proofs, or starting to collect a specific coin by date or mint mark I would appreciate it very much.

For me you all are the experts, after all they are the coins of your country

    This is a list of what I have succeeded to collect in the past five years;

Looks like a good collection especially for your location. I roll search and am about to finish a box of cents and will be starting on 2 boxes of nickels. If you were to post what cents and nickels you need, I may be able to help you out.

Looks like a nice collection so far. You have a broad range of US types there. You can go further with that and complete a type set or just expand on the series' you have.

I would dare say you have a better collection of US coins than 99.9999% of US collectors have of Egyptian coins. :)

Myself, besides some modern ones, I just have some Ptolemy's, (including about 25 Cleopatra VII), a few Roman Egypt, and a few Byzantine Egypt.

    Nice collection.

The Jefferson Nickels and Roosevelt Dimes should be easy enough to finish with a little American help. After you complete those, maybe move onto to something more challenging. Such as Franklin halves, although those could prove very challenging from Egypt. As awlays, I'm glad if I can help. Just be sure to send me updated lists of what you're after every so often :)

Thank you ALL for your comments and encouraging words :)

Well, i dont have these in my Egyptian collection, so i guess this makes us even :D

Thanks Adam, you were always there when i needed some help with my collection :).

I am thinking after i complete the Roosevelts and Jeffersons to focus on Lincoln cents and expand the Roosevelt dimes to include Proofs and/or Silver Proofs. I also love the two Franklin halves i have very much and was thinking may be i would try spending the next years trying to complete a Franklin set.

So what do you all think of that, does this make sense and is there any impossible to get dates in what i mentioned?

Franklin's are still accessible at reasonable prices and in decent grades. That, and the fact that it is a short series makes it an easy one to complete. :)

Good idea's Amr. The Lincoln's probably won't be incredibly difficult, with the exception of 2 or 3 dates, such as the famous 1909-S V.D.B.

Hi. You're doing a lot better with US coins than I am with Egyptian.

I was lucky and was able to obtain all the 1950's issues of the milleme coinage before they went sky high but I don't have much of the later issues. The high denominatyion copper nickel issues have especially eluded me. I do have some of the silver collector issues but I concentrate on base metal coinage in unc. Nonetheless I'm glad to have at least found the Aswan High Dam commems.

I've become interested in ancient Egypt as well as modern Egypt in the last few years so will be trying to find all the silver issues related to ancient Egypt and, perhaps, a little of the gold.

That looks like a very nice collection and impressive at that with your location. I agree with the comment on the Franklin halves. Short set with few varieties so with patience you should be able to go for that one...

Just Ptolemaic or also Roman and Byzantine? Are you going to go after the only Pharonic coin issued?

THe Pharoah coni is very expensive, the Ptolemies will be difficult and expensive to be complete, while you are in luck most Roman and Byzantine Egyptian was bronze. If you like bronze, there is also a Sassanian issue when Khusroe II ruled there for a few years.

Hi, I am happy to meet someone who is collecting Egyptian coins. The 1950's millieme coins (or the "Sphinx collection" as we call it in Egypt) are a very special and difficult set to collect especially in Unc condition. Some of the dates and varieties are considered very scarce and about to be rare.

I am too collecting Modern Egyptian coins 1916 to date, it is a very big collection and if you will add the silver, silver commemorative and gold it will be a very expensive set to complete especially in high grades.

Ancient Egyptian coins needs a lot of knowledge about history and the coins to avoid copies (and believe me there is a lot of them) so beware my friend :)

So, where are you from and how do you get Egyptian coins?

I'm in the central US (northern Indiana at the tip of Lake Michigan) and see Egyptian coins around. Back in the mid-'70's I'd poke through dealer junk boxes (misc low value world coins) because there were still a lot of silver coins in them that could be bought eight for a dollar. Silver was going up and it was one of the few ways to get silver cheap. I started noticing that there were some modern coins that were never seen or were seen only in poor condition so I started looking for them in dealer stock. These, too, were very cheap since in those days no one appreciated post-WW II base metal coins. I could go through a great number of coins very rapidly so this was an ideal job for me and allowed me to start some nice collections. Collections would come on the market and many very scarce coins would just go into junk boxes where I'd pick them up.

The milleme coins I found in dealer stock and they were very cheap. This was back around 1978. It looked like it might have been a collection. Most are only AU but a few are nice choice uncs.

Krause has always listed the mintage of the 1363-1944 hexagonal 2 Piastres as only "32,000". This is incorrect is it not? I see these all the time and pick them up because of the low mintage but I've got so many I don't believe the number.

Your English is superb. Did you study in college?

I now understand how you got all these Egyptian coins and you were lucky to find these milliems in this condition and ofcourse low price. I am now trying to collect the whole set of Sphinx, milliems and silver piasters in Unc condition and it is a difficult and expensive job, but it is worth it :)

The 1944 2 piastres is one of the popular designs that many collectors like to add and as you said you would find it a lot .... so i too suspect that the number is correct.

Regarding my English, i went to a British school and i went to School of Dentistry at Cairo University and i am now a holder of a Doctorate degree in Fixed Prosthodontics and i teach at the University in English where i work as a Lecturer. This is beside i do have a lot of friends world wide (especially in U.S. and Australia) with whom i either chat or talk on daily basis. :)

Very beautiful coin ..... i would grade Unc without any hesitation..... the most important features to look at in all King Farouk coins is the Fez tassels and the buttons in the collar around his neck ..... those are the first thing to get worn .... so if all their details are there .... the grade is Unc

Thanks for sharing this beauty :)
