I do wouldnt say im a big collecter of the bokks but i do have some from the late 1800s. I actally just found out that one i have is worth a ferw hundreds bucks, becuase of its condition. I like to hear things like that. Its called. I also have this in very nice condition sitting here at my desk. The Star\ Rare coin Ecyclopedia and premuim catoalog. Its face prce $1 dollar. Printed and Copy right 1925 and one here from the 50s named United States rare coins Value guide. face price 50 cents. About 14 others and some red books from the 90 to date. soem of the others are form the 1920s There locked up wth a big chunk of my collection in a back valt.
Nathan: The one's from the 1920's are probably the Star Coin Book or The Star Rare Coin Encyclopedia both issued by B. Max Mehl. I agree that they are very nice and neat to collect.....But? In your bank vault? You must be paying a fortune for that safe deposit box.
Found a box of books at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago had 16 red books starting from the early 60's and several other coin books. Paid $2.00 for the box and sold it on ebay for around $11.00. The only good use I've found for Red Book!
speaking of old books, i always flip through them to see whats within their pages because my dad found a 1960's redseal $5 bill before in a book. people use them as bookmarks and forget about it. he has also found a few basesball tickets from the 1930's. you never know what you will find.
Coinlover: Nice finds. I always check out the old books, but I have never found anything, except for some old newspaper clippings about coin sales. Some are interesting, but no money. I have heard of people finding 1st edition Red Books at yards/garage sales for $1.00 or less. But, I am still waiting to find one. Good luck all.
