Does anyone collect Ikes? I'm going to start to. I think the collection is cheap overall and and a kid like me could probably put together one. Not a lot of people are collecting them, and with a small(ish) mintage overall, I think the prices for them will go up in the future. I also like the back of the coin. Post your opinions here.

My opinion? One of the ugliest coins ever made but if you like them go for it. I'm sure there's coins I love that you think are ugly. Whatever floats your boat. You can check at banks cause they have them every once in a while. I don't think they'll be high in value anytime soon, especially after that big hoard was found last year.

Hi there! I think putting together a collection of Ikes is a great idea! They're pretty coins, and strangely enough I had never heard of them until recently when my dad bought one. I've only got one, but I'm hoping to buy another sometime soon. I would not be surprised if the price went up because they are less common than other dollar coins. Good luck on the collection! :thumb:

Yes, I have a lot of the IKES. They are great coins, and readily available at reasonable cost in high level MS and proof. Strongly recommended, as they are an attractive coin, and a good value coin!

Not that it matters, but I like Ikes. I don't know why, but I do :)

If you haven't see it, there is the "Post an Ike thread" here http://www.cointalk.com/t51904/

    Enjoy your collection!

    Ikes are great.

I'd suggest you try to get only nice pristine examples that are well made with minimum marking. Usually the best place to look is mint sets and dealer stock. Just selact nice attractive pieces and you'll have something a little more desirable that's more fun to put together and has more potential to make money when you sell it someday. Very few people are paying attention to these coins so there's no competition in looking for nicer pieces.

You might want to seek varieties as well.

  11. Great series, lots of varieties, and even a little bit of silver. I will even go as far as saying that they are significantly undervalued. Have fun! :smile TC

I love ikes and anyone saying they are ugly just has not seen any attractive ones. Advice to the OP you really should do alot of research when planning on collecting Ikes because although you may think they are cheap they can be worth quite alot in high grade. Determining a high grade specimen of any coin is a challenge enough but i think more so with ikes because not only did it take alot of pressure to strike a high grade Ike but also compare any MS65 Ike to a MS65 Morgan for instance and you will see alot more chatter on the Ike. Most B&M shops sell them raw for cheap just dont expect any MS66's but most importantly have fun and good luck with your collection.

    I like Ikes!

What can I say, they're a cool coin. I especially like how the silver ones look with some nice toning. You find a nicely toned blue Ike and it can really bring out the details in the portrait, and the coin takes one another dimension.

Ike are fun to collect, high grade ones are always a challenge and there are lots of varieties to look for. They don't make large coins like Ikes anymore, enjoy.

As you may know, CAC will now sticker Ikes. I think that will change the opinion on ikes from alot of people, and you will start to see some really nice stuff come out of hiding to be graded by NGC/PCGS and then CAC'd. Values on MS67+ will shoot up alot I would imagine, but thats my uneducated guess. Personally, I hate the look of the coin, but ALSO I 100% agree with the below quote, collect what you like, it doesnt really matter what I like.

read these articles, I think it will give you some good basic info:

I am current collecting IKE and I think it's good start. My IKE album is almost a complete set. I planning to place four empty circles with FEV, king of ike, 1974 D Peg Leg and triple Talon clash. I already found a triple Talon clash from ebay and still waiting to get it through mail. :)
