Hey guys, I've been collecting Morgan's , peace, and silver eagles for a while. I'm looking for my first gold piece and I'm looking at maybe a couple tenth oz gold eagles or a quarter ounce. My budget is 450. I also like the gold $5 coronets but they are kind of pricey due to their historical significance. Any thoughts?

With Dealer wholesale being the following for each, you might be able to justify a low grade Coronet Half eagle more easily than you think:

    1/10 oz AGE $138
    1/4 oz AGE $330
    Coronet Half Eagle $315

Naturally, none of the above account for dealer markup, but they give you a starting point for establishing your goal.

Thanks, I guess condition plays a big part of it too in pricing the coronets , personally I'm leaning toward a 1/4 oz eagle.. thanks for reply, I certainly appreciate it

Look at 20 Franc Roosters and GB Sovereigns. Nice AU-Unc coins with history.

you have a lot of options depending upon what you want.

Myself I like pre-33 and early Commemorative gold coins which match the years of your Morgan and Peace.
If you get a Red Book and flip through there you can see all the US Gold coins available from $1 to current AGE and current commemoratives.

And of course condition can make a specific coin vary to within your budget to outside of your budget.

Many dealers will have nice common-date Liberty Gold for just a little over spot.

I got this today for less than $200 over your budget. It is MS (barely; no higher than a 60) and almost PL. I have already sold it for $100 more.

I would personally get a nice example common date $5 lib or a nicer example common date $2.50 lib. But I'm not you so just my opinion!

Interesting coin @TypeCoin971793, and not exactly a common date. You could have made significantly more than $100 offering it to someone who knew how scarce that coin really is.

Welp, when I was researching its value, I accidentally searched for 1901 S. It technically has not sold yet as it is in an auction on Facebook. I just treat it as sold because it had exceeded my meager $725 reserve.

With a little searching, you can find MS61-63 certified Indian quarter eagles in your price range.

    I second the $2 1/2 Indians.

The 1927 I just purchased, and don't even have in hand yet. I have been looking for a toned 1927 for forever, so I am hoping it is nice in hand, and gradable! It is my only raw one on there.
