Never heard of it. Of course at my age I forget stuff easily. What I do is order about 15 to 20 Proof sets each year along with the Red Book and give them to all the kids in the family or friends of the family for Christmas. Looks impressive and takes the burden of Christmas shopping to a minimum.

well I usually give everyone the year's proof silver eagle, but this has been advertised for the past couple months, and was just wondering if they are of any value to a child collector.

My personal opinion is that the best way to impress a child and potentially turn them into collectors is to give them coins, preferably big coins. Silver eagles and Morgan or Peace dollars might do the job. It is better to try to capture their imagination with the excitement and feel of the real thing than to give them something that might remind them of a homework assignment.

One of the nicer things about giving Proof or Uncirc sets from the Mint is the now inclusive different Quarters and Nickels. This has an additional interest to younger kids and should help make them future collectors, I hope.

Thanks.. I ordered one for me along with the Return to Monticello First Day Cover. Will be interesting to see what it's all about.

Carl you may have a point.. the 2006 proof set is 22.95 vs. 27.95 for the single Silver ASE Proof.
