Hi I am new to this website, I just inherited a box that incudes international and american coins, can someone tell me how to find out the value of these coins. where do I start Thanks
Well, if you'd rather not spend some money on a Redbook of United States Coins, yet this can come in handy for future situations if you find a coin in circulation you are unfamiliar with, you can post some decently high quality photographs on this website and myself, along with other members, can try to give you a good idea of the overall value of the coins. -Brian
First 2 important points. 1) Do not clean them 2) Take your time The first thing to do would be to look through them and figure out what you have. I would start with country, then denomination, then year, then mintmark. If you have a lot of a specific type (like walking liberty halves, or wheat pennies) then we can help you by telling you key dates you should look for. We also like to see detailed pictures; it's an important part of grading and value.
Thanks for responding so fast I found out that a lot of the coins are Egyptian coins from King Farouk and king Fouad as well as coins issued in special occasions. If I need to post a picture of these coins do I just take a picture with a digital camera or there a better way
If that is the only source of photography you have, then it should be just fine. I don't recommend scanning the coins due to the fact that we may not be able to make out certain, important details as well as not being able to notice the lustur. Now, if you have a digital microscope, I'd recommend using that, but it is not necessary. A camera should work just fine. -Brian
