The coins of the Commonwealth of England can be divided into 2 series; The series with the 2 shields on the reverse (Breeches' Money),& the Oliver Cromwell coins. The 1658 5/- crown is one of the most attractive coins that I have ever seen. There were Oliver Cromwell 1/4d.'s with several reverses.Has anyone seen these coins? I have got the Breeches' Money 1d. & 2d. coins, which are undated.
I've seen quite a few Cromwell coins for sale over the past few years, i've even met the odd one in person. I could have bought one once but i figured that it was a bit overpriced for the condition. Quite a bit over to be honest.
Oliver Cromwell Coins. Sylvester,I was shown an Oliver Cromwell 5/- by a late friend of mine.It was one of his favourite pieces. It is in his collection, which will be auctioned in Sydney over the period of 6-8 April by Noble's auction house. It is definitely one of the most attractive English (as opposed to British) coins that I have seen. Here is the link to the catalogue; www.noble.net.au .I hope that you find this to be of interest.
