My husband buys and sells homes and found a 5 set collection of Coins of Hawaii. Hawaii Dollar, Maui Dollar, Hilo Dollar, and Kauai Dollar. Are these collector coins or just a souvenir set? Thanks
Steph - Those look like souvenir coins from all the different islands. http://chiefacoins.com/Database/Micro-Nations/Hawaii-Islands.htm
Howdy and welcome. These are modern souvenir medals and are not coins (even though the plastic states they are coins). Also, they appear to have been manufactured to look old. Lastly, please don't clean coins as you will likely lose the great majority of their value if you do so. My guess is that these were marketed toward tourists and sold for a few dollars a set.
These are popular with the cruise ship industry. An inexpensive way to collect a souvenir from each island port your ship visited. I believe there are seven islands which offer them and they change design ever so often. There should be a year on each one indicating the period of time it was originally made and sold. I have the one's you mentioned plus another marked Kona Coast.
