Looking for a cheap Mongol coin from the time period of G.K. What is a reasonable price to pay? Does not have to be in perfect condition. "Most bang for the buck." What is this one worth?
Looks like you've found the most widely available coin of Genghis (or Chinghiz, to use the currently preferred transliteration), a billon jital of Ghazni. Prices seem pretty variable on these; I just searched on Vcoins, and found 7 examples (using the search term "Genghis Khan"): 1 worn and with encrustation for 49 pounds, four in similar grade to the one you picture for $130, $150, and 99 pounds (x2), one of good silver but heavily worn and pierced for jewelry at 250 pounds, and one nearly uncirculated (but one side off-center) at 350 euros. I have one in my collection that I paid about $70 for, but that was over ten years ago.
Thanks. It started at $40 and has been bid up to $70. I'm just trying to gauge how inexpensively I can find one that still has decent detail. @Parthicus, thanks for the detail. It helps to know which ones are more common. @Jwt708, I'll search on vcoins... it's been a while since I've looked there. Thanks.
