As I am a collector of British Commonwealth coins & notes,I have decided to post a section about the coins & banknotes of the Indian Princely States after they came under British suzerainty for various reasons such as defeat in war (Mysore) or entered into treaty relations (Bahawalpur & Hyderabad). The most well-known Indian Princely State to issue their own banknotes is Hyderabad, which was an Islamic monarchy ruled by the Nizam,& tried to become independent within the British Commonwealth in 1947,but was occupied by Indian military & police forces in 1948.Interestingly,3 Indian Princely States issued their own Postal Orders - Gwalior,Jhind,& Patiala. Bahawalpur was also an Islamic monarchy, but this was under a monarch called the Amir. The last coins were issued in 1940 (1/2 Pice & 1/4 Anna).Bahawalpur acceded to Pakistan in 1947,as did the Khanate of Kalat. Bahawalpur,Hyderbad & Pakistan are the 3 British Commonwealth countries that have had coins with the symbol of the Toughra, even though they were never part of the Ottoman Empire. Aidan.
