I did a search for a freeware cataloging software and found this French guy Alain. He created a nice collection software which come with a build in Paradox database. Don't worry about the database. It will self create for you during the installation.

I downloaded the software and tested it. Seem to be a flexible and simple software to use with all the basic requirement of creation, modification and view screens. In addition, it has a search feature which uses the industry standard SQL. SQL is a structured query language which retrieve data according to your required conditions ( select all those with country = "Singapore" ). In any case, it has a help screen to assist you when you are using the software. There are also other useful features such as Importing and Exporting to and from Excel, HTML and ASCII. There is also a backup for your data as well.

The author makes an effort to add in new features. The last updated was on Jan 2007 which was relatively recent. The software is known as Happy Collection Version 2.5. I am sure you will be happy with it. It's a freeware.

You can download it at http://alainlecomte.free.fr/Download.htm

While testing the software, I have capture the screen for you. I have created the database fields based on my requirement. You can choose to create your own fields under the database creation screen which is located on the top bar menu.

If you have any questions, you can ask me. I should be able to answer you even though I have not written the program for this software.

    Happy Collecting !

Derrick, now that I have downloaded the software onto the Desktop, how do I go about converting it into a coin & banknote catalogue?

All I could find was a catalogue for movies & one for stamps.

You can convert the exisitng movies database into your coins database. Click on the 1 on the top menu ( Can you see 1 to 7. If you are on 1, it will all the record on database 1 ( which I believe was originally a movie database. Next go to the database button. click on it. ( see the first screen that I dump ). You can start changing the labels to your requirement. You can also change the database from movie to coins. Once you have finished, save it. You can start entering records under the creation button.

Derrick,I tried everything, but I couldn't change it,as there is no movable bottom bar to shift the screen to the database button.

It looks like this software is looking for an installed scanner. Without a scanner how will you scan and upload the images of your coins in this software.

No, it does not look for an installed scanner. There is a uploading button to allow you to select a picture file ( scan ) from your drives and directories. It's simple, nothing complex.

You can also import and export your data into HTML, ASCII, Excel and Access.
