Just won this lot in the Solidus auction. Yes, I know they are not in perfect condition. However, I wanted the spear type solidus of Justinian and I wanted a tremissis of him as well. Now I have both. They both have some character to them, just like the past few solidii I have bought. Now I have to track down the Sear and DOC references. Please feel free to post your coins of Justinian or any other Byzantine coins. Justinian I. (527 - 565 AD). Lot (2 pieces): 1 solidus, 1 tremissis; Constantinopolis. Vs: Helmeted bust with pearl diadem, tank, shouldered lance and shield en face / Draped bust with diadem, paludament and tank on the right. Rs: Victoria with cross-staff and cross globe standing in front / Victoria with wreath and cross-globe going to the right. 3.90 g - 20 mm / 1.16 g - 16 mm. Small embossed weakness, antique cropped, graffiti, very nice. Solidus Chance auction 24, Lot 2358 January 14, 2018.
Can't go wrong with Byzantine gold. Justinian solidus Or "nearly Byzantine" (i.e. very late Eastern Roman) Theodosius II solidus Or any other gold for that matter. Tremissis of Visigothic king Sisebut
Those are really nice shots (and beautiful coins)! I find it hard to take pictures of my gold coins and have them appear realistic.
