I can't find it in my catalogues either, but going by the design (Knight slaying dragon) it is definitely a Russian coin probably made for occupied Poland or similar given that the denomination is Dva (Two) Grosha. It's probably the same size as a Russian denominated coin of the time, like a `polushka' (1/4 kopek) or a `denga' (1/2 kopek). It is not possible to get an idea of the actual size of the coin from the scan providied, but it is fairly similar to a Russian Denga of 1762. I've never come across a coin with that denomination before and although that is hardly an indication, I do believe that this coin might be quite rare. Ian
It definetly matches the Russian design of the 4 Kopeks of 1762 (two kopeks as well) but was not issued for Russia. Very attractive design for the period so it would be interesting to see where this coin was really used. Must agree with Ian as my books do not list this coin in the Polish section either. Will continue to look and perhaps I can stumble on to something? Thanks for the scan so we could all share in this mystery!
