Which would you subscribe to, if you had to subscribe to one or the other? I'm not so much interested in the price guides in either, but am looking for the publication with the most informative articles and maybe more ads. Which generally has more "stuff" in each issue? Don't consider subscription price in your decision, please. Thanks, Joe
I subscribe to both. Coin World has more ads by far (the latest issue is 152 pages). NN seems to have more in-depth editorial on a few topics, whereas CW seems to touch on a lot of news with less depth.
I subscribe to both, and like them alot. I don't know about ads. As for articles, NN usually has 2 or 3 long articles, but CW has a bunch of shorter articles. If I based my decision on articles alone, I would go with CW. I like the editorials and letters sections in NN more though. So I would say NN is a close second to CW.
....i get them both but i think CW is better in a couple different ways. one is the mag is smaller and easier to negotiate AND now you can get CW in a strong plastic bag as an option. BUT it costs you about 20 bucks more a year if you go for that option. also, you get it (at least i do) sooner than NN. CW is available online and is only 10 bucks plus you can get their news every monday on the web. one thing i DON'T like about CW is they don't print as many letters to the editor as NN does.
I like CW. I also like Coins as they usually have some really nice articles that go a bit further in depth than CW. Really, I don't think you can go wrong with any coin magazine. Go to a larger book store and pick up a sampling of all the coin-related mags they have and see which ones you like enough to subscribe to. Guy~
If those were your only two choices, I would say Coin World. However, I skip both of them in favor of the ANA's Numismatist. I also really enjoy the ANS's Journal.
Both CW and NN should be required reading for all coin collectors. In fact, if I had my way, dealers would not be able to sell you a single coin unless you could produce proof that you had subscriptions to both. That's how important it is !
I never subscribed to NN but I did to CW. And I am about to renew my subscription and start getting it again -- Paper version.
I think I'll go with CW. It's 10 bucks more, but still only $40 per year from Amazon. And There's no WAY I'm getting the online version - I like print. Edit - Y'know, I'm perusing the digital version of CW, and it's not really hard to read. It appears to be the actual magazine scanned into .pdf format. I was expecting more of just a website with the info on various pages. I like the way it is. I can get the print NN plus the digital CW for about the same price as the print CW only... Hmmm... Joe
What the other posters failed to mention with the on line version of CW is you also get on line subscriptions to 4 magazines covering coins, stamps and paper money. Can't beat that. If I see an article I'm really interested in keeping, I just print it out. Anyway, each to their own.
As someone who was reluctant to give up my "hard copy" for a digital version, I must say that the digital version of CW is not only VERY easy to read, but has a more timely delivery, and everything that the delivered version has at a far cheaper price. homer, I would try the digital version, you'll probably like it. I was having delivery problems through the mail, and the digital version solved the problem and saved me over $40/year! shalom, it not only has all of the pages, but it looks exactly the same, except it appears on your computer screen.
I went with the digital CW - 52 digital issues plus 12 hard copy CW "Special Editions" for $20, plus the hard copy of NN for $30. 50 bucks for both is pretty good... Joe
