What methods do you use to determine coin values?

    Me?

I try to assess the condition and grade of a coin, using reference material such as the ANA grading book as a guide.

Then, I'll refer to one of the publications that gives values, the best (IMO) being Greysheet.

I get the 'What's it worth' question a lot in my email box.

If I am interested in purchasing a particular coin that is worth more than say a few hundred dollars - then I go through a good deal of research. I regularly track auction prices, retail prices, all the price guides, wholesale prices etc.

But in many cases one of the best ways to establish a current value for all but the most expensive coins - a simple search on ebay for Items Completed will provide a fairly accurate value. And this includes most world coinage which is often difficult to find out about.
