I now alot of you are totally involved in the coin world and basically know what's hot and what's not so I gotta ask. What coin is going for top dollar right now and which series has gone downhill in price? Anyone?

Doug's graphs usually paint a pretty accurate picture as a whole. However, a lot of it is regional. What is hot here isn't there and vise versa. There is no overall big picture.

Low grade 90% silver is the hot ticket for silver boullion right now, and seemed to have taken the spotlight off of a number of series recently. Lincoln cents have cooled considerably from the 100th anniversary last year, and returning to more realistic pricing I might add.

The "pop" in silver prices is going to make all the dollar 90% silver coins desirable. Wonder how many of those Morgan/Peace issues will wind up at the smelters this time......

All the more reason to collect 'em 'cause you like 'em. Don't collect 'em 'cause ya think you're gonna make a killing down the line. Man, you could see that one coming a mile away......

I'll buy them as I find them dirt cheap at flea markets over the next 20-40 years :)

You will have to just consider what they have done for the hobby and for educational purposes. So many people were introduced to the joys of numismatics, and I' for one read the articles in my periodicals about each state as its quarter was released. My daughter isn't even three yet, and loves when I get out the big map with all the different quarters in it. The media and televised coin sellers gave people the foolish idea that coins produced in the hundreds of millions could somehow be rare and sought after in the near future. See green18's post for the advice I second!

I agree, state quarters are one of the most important events for numismatic history. They introduced millions of people to the hobby and hopefully some of them will become aspiring numismatists like many of us on this forum.
