Coin theft last month so I bought his Franklin Half set

One month ago one of our very friendly coin dealers in Connecticut had his coins stolen from his car. His loss was about $8,000 in coins & bullion. Of course, he made a mistake & will never make that mistake again. He left the coins unattended for about 1 1/2 minutes. In that time, the criminals that had staked-out the coin show hit his car quickly. There was a female accomplice impeding the dealer’s motion inside the building and a few other bad guys both inside & outside of the building.

There has even been a statement in the Coin Dealer’s Newsletter (Grey Sheet) informing everyone about the bad guys that are working the Northeast. That is probably enough said about this crime spree in the NE. Everyone at CT should watch their back & watch the back of their neighbors. There are groups of professional criminals (with accomplices placed close enough to stick a knife into you) & they can target anyone.

This month, I visited this friendly dealer’s booth & bought a Franklin half dollar set he had for sale. (The criminals hadn’t gotten his entire inventory). I bought the coin set because I wanted to contribute to the dealer’s financial recovery. I now call this my “Good Karma Half Dollar Set”. At first glance, the coins looked mostly uncirculated. Here is the coin set:

When I got home, I looked at the coins more carefully to see if any were not uncirculated. I kind of expected some mint state 60 coins & problem coins because I only paid $25 over bid for an MS60-MS63 set. To my surprise, every coin was nice uncirculated. In fact, many of them are looking like 64s and 65s with full bell lines. Someone had put a lot of effort into assembling a nice set of Franklin Half Dollars!
    Here is the 1949-D:

Beautiful. Worked out well for both of you! I love the capital holder too.

    Here is the 1951-D.

The worst coin in the set is the 1948-D which I grade MS60/61. The best coin in the set is the 1958-D which I grade a 66 FBL.

I wanted to help the dealer more than I wanted a bunch of silver halves. Now that I have them, I really like them a lot. The Capital plastic makes it a nice set & the coins are really top-end.

Wow, stunning! Those Frankies are just dripping with luster it looks like. That is rare to see so many nice ones in a set like that. I usually expect a cleaned or AU/Bu coins in situations like that.

That was real cool for you to that! I'm sure the dealer appreciated it as well. The good guys have something the bad guys will never have, like unconditional friendship, integrity, and people like you having their back.
Oh and you suck! :) cause those Franklin's are NICE!

    Carry on...

Nice set! Did you check to see if any of them are the Bugs Bunny varieties?

I bought a simliar set in a Capital holder a few years back, but the positions of the screws are different. The set I have had a screw in the center of the top, but it wasn't with it at the time of my purchase. Apparently, the former owner used this hole to hang it on the wall. It didn't matter because I put all of them in a Dansco.

Good Karma is ALWAYS good to have (just started believing in it recently, and try to 'pad' my Karma as often as possible).

In regard to the set......I love it! I'm not a fan of toning, anf Frankies have really been kinda 'bland' in my mind....but that set has shown me a brilliant, not messed with set of blasty white Frankies is a thing of beauty! Now, to find more money to start at least a Dansco of them. Good show with helping out, and thanks for sharing the photo!

Our Capital holders are the same. Of course, mine was photographed this weekend on a dirty chair outdoors.

    Good For You! [IMG]

An Outstanding gesture of humanity to someone in need! It's a very nice looking set but I'm sure you'll enjoy it much more than I or others will simply for what it represents to you. [IMG]

I have the same holder but the safety deposit box gets full quick so they were taken out of mine.

That was nice thinking on your part , and you bought a very nice set. The Dealer probably recovered though when he received his insurance check .
