Hey Gang! Carlton (Wiggam007) and myself have been cleared by the powers that be to produce a podcast for CoinTalk. This podcast is is going to be a part of the Cointalk website. I have spoken to the sites founder and he has given us his blessing to produce a show here and at the moment we plan to have an interview with Peter on our first episode. We would really like your input as to what you would like to hear from us. So far we have decided to do a weekly show. We plan to each week produce a 45 minute to hour and a quarter show dedicated to numismatics, current events in the hobby, and current events on CoinTalk. We need your help... This is a community based podcast. We want to provide you with segments that highlight current events both on and off of CoinTalk. This is what we need: * A dedicated co-host with an opinion (and a microphone or headset) PM if interested. *We plan on bringing members on the show to discuss their collections and/or what you collect or specialize in. Volunteers who would like to participate by phone or by skype would be welcomed. PM for more information. *We plan on interviewing interesting and important people in the hobby and making them part of the show. Next week we will be producing a short introductory podcast to give you an idea of what we want to provide the membership. In the meantime we would like to hear your opinions about what we need to do to make this a success.
I think this sounds like a wonderful idea. I'd love to hear from folks who specialize in specific coins. My own interests tend to run in one cent pieces, buffs and mercs, but I can honestly say that there isn't a single issue that I would have no interest in...yes I'd even like to learn more about the Susan B. Anthony Dollars. Another topic that I am just starting to look at is symbology on coins. A third area that I have interest in is the lives and works of various designers. Some of the folks who designed our coinage have done some marvelous work on foreign coins, medals, tokens, and other forms of art. I'd love to hear about the lives of the designers. To make it a success...just remind me every now and again that it's there. I sometimes feel a little scattered and forgetful. I usually remember the name of my wife, but I often wonder who that 14-year old girl is who runs around the house. I've been known to place things into the microwave and never press start...actually I do it fairly regularly. If I remember to put the podcast on my calendar I have a fair chance of actually catching it now and again. Thanks for your hard work. That's my two cents. Art Haule
Guys! I have to say that I am overwhelmed with the offers I have gotten to help in some way or form. If we can keep up this level of interest from week to week this show will be a great success. We could still use help tho. If you have a topic you want discussed or would like to discuss with us please let me know. We would love to address your topic.
Definitely thoughts on the Chinese counterfeiting & what its doing to the hobby. Sure ive read about it on other boards and here but it would make a great podcast subject one week.
Matt, Great concept! Thanks for grabbing the bull by the horns on this one. I look forward to a weekly segment on the US Mint; updates on production, quality, availability and a critique of "How is the Mint doing"... just my p.o.v.
Great news!! I'm always looking for new, good podcasts to listen to and was hoping somebody would pull one together here! This would be a great show because everybody here is pretty well acquainted. Some more than others. People that haven't specifically talked with me, you, or others on here would still know us from the forum. That would make this a really neat podcast to listen to! I'd definitely download it every week. My humble suggestion would be to try to keep it to an intermediate experience level show most of the time. But also, once in a while have a more basic show for beginners to call into and once in a while have a more advanced show. For example, a counterfeit discussion could be a show for the general audience. Then you could have a show about varieties and how to identify them within a couple of different series'. I'd love to hear a show like that. Another show could be about coinshow/ shop etiquette. I think one show a month should be dedicated to forum member's calls. That'd give you guys a break from producing the show one week a month and let us hear from everybody. Maybe we could also have a weekly vote for a thread? Call it topic of the week. Whatever thread received the most votes could be discussed on the air that week? Just throwing some stuff out there. I'm sure you guys have considered many of the possibilities already. God knows, you could have one show a month dedicated to people's ebay and other online shopping experiences!! Good luck with it all. Can't wait to tune in. :thumb:
The "hot topic" idea sounds like it'd be great to listen to. As I was writing this I was thinking that I can d/l the podcasts to my mp3 player and listen in the car or anywhere else!
Luckily, you don't have to 'catch' a podcast. They're saved online, sitting there available for you to download whenever you get around to it. If you hear there was a show Jan. 12th that might have interested you, just go back and download it. You want today's show, download it. BTW, who's the host(s) going to be? LD? Wiggam?
Oh yeah. I usually dump a week's worth on my Ipod and listen to them on the way to work. They're a great time filler on the road.
Some great ideas for topics so far. Here are a few to think over. What's that term mean. Safety on Ebay. Know your dealer. Proper ways to store coins (from holders to safes). Don't clean that coin. This could be a really cool thing.
