Hello everyone. I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and would like to know if Zip-Loc Freezer bags are detrimental for storing, lets say as an example, American Silver Eagle Proofs in their original U.S. Mint packaging? I also have a name brand vacuum sealer and wondered if those specific kind of plastic bags would have an advantage for long term storage in our moister climate up here. I presently use the granular silica packets in my safe and so far everything looks great. I just concerned about the long haul and would like to have anyone throw in their two cents worth on this subject. Way, way back I started putting all my Albums in plastic bags and pushed out as much air as possible. After the invention of Zip Lock bags, I switched to them. I've presently got over 100 Whitman Albums in Zip Lock Plastic bags the one gallon size. They fit really great. The same size are really tight for Dansco Albums I've found since those are a little larger in height.
Your best bet is to store them in low humidity with out any Moisture contamination enviroment, Just make sure there Kept dry and you will be ok!
This is sort of true. That is why I've been contimplating sending all my coins to Egypt. Notice how those Mummies lasted all these thousands of years. Mostly due to no humidity. Now that is something for someone to study. Do coins last longer in Arizona than in Missouri? Nevada compared to Illinois? Now here is a suggestion for those that use safes for storage. Instead of a safe, use your freezer section of a refrigerator to store all your coins. Almost all modern ones take all the moisture out of the air completely. AND here is something else to think about. When was the last time you ever heard of a home invasion criminal robbing the freezer section of your refrig?
